How does acnecide gel work?

The active ingredient in acnecide gel, benzoyl peroxide, is antimicrobial, antiseptic, and antiinflammatory. It reduces the amount of bacteria that causes acne by attacking and killing it, and the less bacteria there is the clearer the skin will be. Propionibacterium acnes lives off the sebum produced by the sebaceous glands, and in people with acne more sebum is produced than normal meaning this bacteria can thrive. Acnecide gel keeps the pores unblocked and free from dirt and bacteria so that there is less chance of new spots forming and allows the skin to heal.

Who is acnecide gel suitable for?

Acnecide gel is suitable for those who have been diagnosed and are suffering with acne, particularly if the acne is caused by bacteria. Acne can be defined as a chronic inflammatory skin condition, the occasional spot is not characteristic of acne. Acne will need to be treated if there are multiple red spots which are painful and infected. Benzoyl peroxide is used in a lot of over-the-counter and prescription medicines for treating acne, therefore if you have acne it’s likely that you will use this medicine at some point.
