What is the AliveCor KardiaMobile ECG 1 Lead and how does it work?

The AliveCor KardiaMobile is a portable electrocardiogram (ECG) recorder that can be used for professional or personal use. An ECG is a commonly used test that checks a person’s heart rhythm and electrical activity. Traditionally in a hospital setting, an ECG machine is slightly larger and sensors are attached to the skin and a machine records electrical signals that are produced by the heart when it beats. The AliveCor KardiaMobile ECG is a much smaller device that can be carried around with you and used at any time, and the results are easily displayed on your iOS or Android smartphone or tablet. You can simply clip the ECG to your compatible smartphone or tablet and take it wherever you go. Use the app to track recordings, add notes after each ECG and also track your weight and blood pressure

This device lets you know instantly if your heart rhythm is normal or if atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, or tachycardia has been detected. For anyone who has a heart rhythm disorder such as these, the KardiaMobile is a potentially life-saving piece of equipment. It can help monitor these conditions and help to get a quicker diagnosis and treatment.

KardiaMobile uses Bluetooth to communicate with the compatible app to display tracings of the electrical signals produced by your heart.

How do I know if my heart rate is normal?

A normal resting heart rate is between 60 and 100 beats per minute, however, it can be slower if you’re particularly fit or athletic. Depending on your age and physical condition, it can be dangerous if your heart rate is too slow or too fast. It’s normal for your heart rate to increase in certain circumstances such as during exercise or when you’re feeling stressed, but if your heart rate is too fast in a resting state and without any reason then you may have a heart rhythm disorder.

What is atrial fibrillation?

Atrial fibrillation is a heart condition that causes an irregular and fast heart rate, and problems such as dizziness, shortness of breath, and chest pain. Atrial fibrillation affects the upper chambers of the heart known as the atria, the electrical signals in these chambers can become erratic which is when an irregular heart rate occurs. Those who have atrial fibrillation are at an increased risk of stroke and heart failure.

What is bradycardia?

Bradycardia is when your heart rate is too slow, which is more common in elderly people. Generally, a resting heart rate that is below 60 bpm is considered to be bradycardia, however, in adults who are physically fit their heart rate can naturally be lower. If left untreated, severe bradycardia can lead to a range of complications including heart failure

What is tachycardia?

Tachycardia is a fast heart rate of over 100 bpm and as with the other arrhythmias, there can be some serious complications such as stroke and heart failure, although some people with tachycardia may not experience any symptoms or complications.

A device such as KardiaMobile allows you to check for arrhythmias even if you don’t have symptoms.

Who is the KardiaMobile ECG suitable for?

This device is suitable for adults only and should not be used by children. It may be used by medical professionals or for personal use as part of the management and treatment of a diagnosed heart rhythm disorder. If you have heart problems or any serious health conditions you must speak to your doctor before using this device. It may also be suitable for those who want to keep track of their overall health including weight and blood pressure.
