What is Avamys?

Avamys, also sold as fluticasone furoate, is a nasal spray which works by decreasing the inflammation that allergic rhinitis causes and providing relief from the associated symptoms within 8 to 24 hours after the first dose. It can take several days of use for the full effects of Avamys to be experienced. When the fluticasone is applied to the nasal passage, it prevents the release of chemicals which trigger an allergic response to irritants such as pollen.

How to take Avamys?

Avamys is applied to the nostrils once daily, usually in two spray actuations of 27.5 micrograms of fluticasone furoate in each spray. The total daily dose should be 110 micrograms. This can be reduced to one spray in each nostril, or 55 micrograms per day, once the symptoms have been controlled. For children aged 6 to 11 years, the recommended starting dose is one spray in each nostril daily. For an increased chance of seeing benefits, this medication should be used regularly, and scheduled use is recommended.

Precautions with Avamys?

As only a small amount of Avamys is absorbed into the bloodstream via the nose, there is a low chance of it affecting any other medication that you’re taking. However, it is worth mentioning to your doctor or pharmacist that you’re taking any other drugs so that they can determine if Avamys is suitable.

The safety of Avamys during pregnancy hasn’t been established, so this medication should only be used during pregnancy if the benefit outweighs the risk to the unborn baby – ask your doctor for advice if you’re pregnant. Likewise, as it is unknown whether this medication is excreted in breast milk, administration of Avamys to breastfeeding women should only be considered if the benefits are greater than the possible risk to the child.

Side effects of Avamys?

Possible side effects from using Avamys include:

  • Nosebleeds
  • Nasal ulceration to the nose
  • Headaches
  • Pain, irritation, burning, soreness or dryness inside the nose

Though rare, if you experience any of the following signs of an allergic reaction, seek medical attention immediately:

  • Wheezing
  • Swelling of the lips or mouth
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Hayfever
  • Lumpy rash
  • Fainting

How do I buy Avamys online?

To legally and safely purchase Avamys, you need a prescription from a General Medical Council (GMC) registered doctor. Our online service allows you to do this quickly and easily, from the comfort of your own home by submitting a completed consultation form to one of our GMC doctors.

Once you’ve chosen your medication and submitted the relevant information, one of our doctors will review the request and, if it is deemed appropriate for you, accepted. Your prescription will then be issues and dispensed by our UK-based pharmacy with full tracking to your chosen address. Medicines are typically dispatched within 24 hours of the order being received.
