What is Cerelle?

Cerelle, also sold as Cerazette, is a progesterone-only contraceptive pill for women which contains 75 micrograms of the synthetic sex hormone desogestrel. It works by prevent pregnancy through increasing the thickness of mucus at the neck of the cervix to make it more difficult for sperm to pass through, and by reducing the thickness of the womb lining to prevent fertilised eggs from implanting, as well as preventing ovulation by tricking the body into thinking ovulation has already occurred.

How to take Cerelle?

Cerelle should be taken orally once per day with water, and with or without food. This medication should be taken continuously, so there is no week-long break as with some other types of contraceptive pills. Cerelle should be taken at the same time each day – if you forget to take the pill and are more than 12 hours late, you should use an alternative method of contraception as well as the pill, as its efficiency at preventing pregnancy may be reduced. Continue taking your remaining pills at the usual time.
