Premature ejaculation is a condition which affects many men and while it is not something which is life-threatening, it can cause a lot of embarrassment and stress for those experiencing it. There are oral caplets and tablets, with Cligosiban being one example, as well as spray products which can be used alternatively.

What is Cligosiban and what is it used for?

Cligosiban is a newly developed drug that is used in the treatment of premature ejaculation. Premature ejaculation occurs when a man ejaculates too quickly or before they’re ready during sexual intercourse. This is one of the most common ejaculation problems and is caused by a number of factors including problems with the thyroid or prostrate, or psychological problems such as stress and depression.

Premature ejaculation is currently treated with therapy, medication, or topical anesthetics. Cligosiban is a new medication in tablet form that aims to treat premature ejaculation by delaying orgasm so that sex can last longer.

How does it work?

Cligosiban is an oxytocin receptor antagonist. Oxytocin is a hormone produced in the hypothalamus and is involved in childbirth, breastfeeding, and sexual reproduction. This hormone also plays a part in emotions and social behaviours including interaction in relationships, as well as anxiety and stress. It’s the role it plays in orgasm which makes it a good treatment for premature ejaculation.

Oxytocin is released during sexual intercourse and is thought to play a part in triggering arousal and orgasm. Cligosiban works to reduce these levels of oxytocin which are increased during orgasm. It does this by preventing oxytocin from binding to cells.

Who will be suitable to take cligosiban?

Cligosiban has been designed to suit men who have problems with ejaculation, more specifically premature ejaculation. The time it takes to ejaculate varies between men but premature ejaculation is generally considered to be within a minute of sexual intercourse. Of course there will be other factors to be considered before taking cligosiban to ensure suitability. As with all medications you’ll need to ensure that this medicine does not interact with any other medication you may be taking, or with any other medical conditions you may have.

Is it effective?

Cligosiban has been found to work quite fast and is most effective when taken 1 to 2 hours before sex. Studies conducted around this drug revealed that the time it took men to orgasm was increased with the use of cligosiban. Delaying this climax prevents ejaculating too early, and therefore cligosiban seems to be a promising drug in treating this issue.
