What is Doublebase Gel used for?

Doublebase Gel is used to treat various skin conditions that cause dry, chapped skin which can become itchy, red, and sore. These conditions include psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, ichthyosis (dry, scaly skin), and elderly pruritus (itchy skin due to aging). Dry skin is common amongst all ages and it ranges in severity, and many of these conditions cause itching alongside the dryness as well as discomfort and pain.

How does it treat and prevent dry skin?

Doublebase Gel contains isopropyl myristate and liquid paraffin which are emollients and these emollients trap moisture to protect and restore the skin. They help to stop vital moisture leaving the skin and replace any lost oils. It also softens and moisturises the skin to prevent drying and irritation. Regular use of this gel will help to keep the skin hydrated and keep dry skin conditions under control and prevent flare-ups.

Who should not use Doublebase Gel?

Doublebase Gel can be used by most people without causing any problems, however, if your skin is highly sensitive or you have an allergy to isopropyl myristate, liquid paraffin, or any of the other ingredients in this gel, you should avoid using this product. Allergies can be severe so it’s important to steer clear of this gel if you’re aware that you have an allergy.

Doublebase Gel is highly flammable so do not smoke if you’re using this product and stay away from naked flames as there is a risk of burns.

Can this gel be used with other medicines or emollients?

Doublebase Gel is not known to affect or be affected by other medicines so it’s generally safe to use while taking other medicines. However, you should also let your doctor or pharmacist know about any other medicines you’re taking to be on the safe side and ensure that there isn’t a risk of interaction. You can use other emollients that you may have been prescribed with Doublebase Gel but ensure that you leave sufficient time in between applications so that the products don’t mix together and have time to absorb into the skin for them to be effective.

Can it be used while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Doublebase Gel is safe to use if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, although you should always speak to your doctor or pharmacist when starting a new medicine if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. It’s best to avoid the nipple area when applying the gel so that your baby doesn’t ingest it or leave sufficient time between applying the gel and nursing. Speak to your doctor if you’re unsure about using this gel while breastfeeding.

How to use Doublebase Gel 500g dispenser

This gel can be applied directly to the affected area as often as you need to. Before using the gel, the dispenser will need to be unlocked by turning it to the open and arrow, and it will need to be primed before the first use by pressing the pump down several times.

You can then apply gently smooth some of the gel across your skin and leave it to soak in. You may apply it before or after washing to prevent the skin drying which can often happen after bathing or washing with soap. If you want to apply another type of emollient make sure to leave some time in between applications.

Are there any side effects of Doublbase Gel?

Doublebase Gel is not likely to cause side effects, however, side effects are possible if your skin is extremely sensitive. An allergic skin reaction or skin irritation may occur on skin that is extremely sensitive, although this happens in very rare cases. If you’re experiencing a severe skin reaction, stop using this product immediately and seek medical help urgently particularly if your symptoms are severe. If your skin condition is worsening or your side effects get serious you should stop using the gel and consult your doctor.

If you accidentally swallow any of the gel you may experience diarrhoea, if this happens, keep hydrated and see your pharmacist for the best medicines to treat diarrhoea.
