Femodette

Femodette is a prescription medication known as an oral contraceptive, of which there are dozens of variations. Also known as “The Pill”, oral contraceptives belong to the family of contraceptives known as hormonal contraceptives, as they manipulate the body’s hormones to prevent pregnancy. Femodette is called a combined pill as it contains both an oestrogen and a progesterone hormone. The Pill is one of the most reliable forms of reversible protection, and doesn’t interrupt sex, making it one of the most popular types of contraception. As it alters your hormones to have its effect, there may be some side effects in the form of mood swings. However, it has the advantage that it can be stopped immediately if the side effects are too much.

If you know Femodette is right for you, you can buy it online safely from a UK doctor such as Doctor-4-U by completing our simple medical questionnaire and getting a certified prescription.

  • You should take ONE tablet at the same time each day for 21 days, followed by 7 days of not taking any tablets before repeating the cycle. However, if you take a hormonal contraceptive that is designed to be taken every day (also known as an "ED" pill), you should not take a 7 day break after day 21.
  • Always take your tablet at the same time each day
  • If you miss a dose or take your tablet later than you should, read the patient information leaflet or speak to a GP or pharmacist for advice, as you may not be protected against pregnancy.
  • If you experience vomiting or severe diarrhoea, this medication may not work effectively. Because of this, it's recommended that you use condoms or other barrier methods for 7 days after you've experienced illnesses like these.

Buy Femodette online

Femodette is one of many types of oral contraceptive. It contains two hormones, an oestrogen hormone and a progestogen hormone which work together to stop you getting pregnant. When taken correctly, Femodette is a highly effective form of contraception. Femodette is a type of 21-day pill, meaning you take one pill a day for 21 days then have a 7-day break before starting the next pack.

Do you need a prescription for Femodette?

Yes, you need a prescription from a GMC/EU certified doctor in order to buy Femodette online. With Doctor-4-U’s easy consultation process, you can get a prescription for Femodette safely and quickly. Before you can confirm what item you are ordering, you will need to fill out a short medical questionnaire provided. If you are deemed suitable to be prescribed your requested medication, it will usually be dispatched within 24 hours.

What is the difference between Femodene and Femodette?

Chemically, these two types of oral contraceptive are very similar, as they are combined pills with the same hormones and are both 21-day pills. However, Femodette contains proportionally less of the oestrogen hormone, which may reduce some of the side effects in some women.

How does Femodette work?

Femodette contains two active ingredients. The first of these is ethinylestradiol, a synthetic version of a naturally occurring oestrogen hormone, and the second is gestodene, a type of progestogen hormone. These work in combination to stop an egg being released into the ovaries and then fertilised.

As Femodette does not help protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs), you should also use a condom for to ensure safer sex, and you should take an STI test every time you have a new sexual partner.

Who is Femodette suitable for?

Although Femodette is designed for women over the age of puberty and before the age of menopause who want to prevent pregnancy, your medical history may mean it isn’t right for you.

You should not take Femodette if:

  • You are allergic to ethinylestradiol, gestodene, or any of the other ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet
  • You are pregnant
  • You or your family have a history of blood clots
  • You have had angina, a heart attack or a stroke
  • You have had breast cancer, or cancer of the genital organs
  • You have bad migraines
  • You have severe chronic liver disease
  • You have unexplained vaginal bleeding

If you are currently taking any other medicines, then you should tell your doctor or pharmacist about these before you start using femodette. This is an important matter to discuss, since some medications can potentially interact with femodette. It’s particularly worth mentioning if you are taking any of the following:

  • Medicines used to treat epilepsy
  • Medicines used to treat HIV and Hepatitis C infections
  • Any antibiotics (certain ones can affect femodette)
  • Certain sedatives known as barbiturates
  • Griseofulvin (an anti-fungal treatment)
  • A herbal remedy called St. John’s Wort

Femodette side effects

Like all medications, Femodette may have side effects, but not everyone gets them. Common side effects include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Changes to your period
  • Depression and mood swings
  • Painful breasts
  • Headaches

Taking Femodette increases your chance of getting a blood clot, which can be very dangerous. Seek medical attention immediately if you think you may have developed a blood clot. Blood clots are more likely:

  • With increasing age
  • If you smoke
  • If you are overweight
  • If you have high blood pressure
  • If a close relative has had a heart attack or stroke at a young age
  • If you have a high level of fat in your blood
  • If you get migraines
  • If you have a problem with your heart
  • If you have diabetes

There is a possible small link between Femodette and breast cancer, which you can read about in the patient information leaflet.

How to take Femodette

Femodette is known as a 21-day pill, which means you take one pill per day for 21 days until the blister pack is finished, then have 7 pill-free days before starting the next pack. When you begin taking Femodette, take the first pill on the first day of your period. Make sure you take femodette at a similar time of day each day.

If you miss a pill but you are less than 12 hours late taking it, then take it once you remember. This could mean taking two pills in one day, but don’t worry about that. Your contraceptive protection should not be reduced. Take the following pills at the usual times.

If you’re more than 12 hours late taking a pill or you miss more than one pill, then still take one as soon as you remember but your contraceptive protection may be reduced. Don’t take more than one pill at the same time to make up for multiple forgotten doses.
