Flexiseq Osteoarthritis Pain Relief Gel

Flexiseq is a topically applied gel which can be used to treat joint pain associated with osteoarthritis. During use, it is usually applied twice a day (once in the morning and once in the evening) and it can potentially deliver pain relief in just a couple of days (although several more days of continuous use may be required to get the full effects). This gel is a drug-free treatment which contains tiny lipid spheres that can pass through the skin and reach the joint being treated below. The gel delivers key lubricating ingredients directly into joints that have been affected by osteoarthritis.

Flexiseq Osteo gel explained

Flexiseq is a drug-free gel which can be used to treat pain and stiffness in joints caused by osteoarthritis (OA). Extensive clinical data has approved Flexiseq as a medical device for the treatment of all joints affected by osteoarthritis. The gel lubricates the cartilage in joints to improve their function and relieve pain and stiffness which can occur during any stage of osteoarthritis.

There are currently two types of Flexiseq on offer. These are known as Flexiseq Osteoarthritis (or Flexiseq Osteo for short) which comes in a white and blue box and Flexiseq Active which comes in a black and blue carton. Flexiseq Osteoarthritis is intended for patients which require maximum strength treatment for their symptoms.

How does Flexiseq Osteo work?

Flexiseq Osteoarthritis gel does not feature any medication used for pain relief or any drugs whatsoever. It instead contains tiny lipid spheres which can pass through the skin and into the joints below. These lipid spheres are essentially tiny oil droplets. When they reach the joint you’re treating, they become suspended in the natural synovial fluid in your joint to create a lubricating barrier over any damaged cartilage.

Patients with joint disorders such as osteoarthritis have been found to have reduced levels of lubricants in their synovial fluid. Certain published medical studies have found that liposome vesicles (similar to the ones found in Flexiseq) can act as a bio-lubricant in the knee joint, and hence can reduce pain and improve mobility.

Who can use Flexiseq Osteoarthritis?

Anyone who has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis can consider using this gel as a way of treating their symptoms. Flexiseq Osteoarthritis contains the maximum strength formulation, but the lighter Flexiseq Active gel may prove sufficient in treating symptoms. You can discuss which one is more suitable with your doctor, nurse or local pharmacist.

Flexiseq gel should not be used on open wounds or mucous membranes. It should also not be applied on skin which is broken or infected.

This gel has not been used during clinical trials on women who are pregnant or breast-feeding. For that reason, it is not recommended that you use this gel if either of those circumstances apply to you, unless you discuss using it with your doctor and they deem it ok/necessary.

Instructions for using Flexiseq Osteo

Unless your doctor instructs differently, Flexiseq Osteoarthritis gel is usually applied twice daily (in the morning and the evening) to the soft tissues around the affected joint. It’s important to apply a quantity of gel which is appropriate to the size of the joint being treated. If you are applying the gel to a knee, shoulder or hip, then a line as long as your index finger should be enough. If you are using the gel on an ankle, wrist or the fingers on one hand, then a line as long as just half of your index finger is likely sufficient. But you can personalise the dose for whatever particular joint you are treating and doing so is beneficial.

When you are done applying the gel to your joint, wash your hands. It is crucial to allow the treated area to dry out before covering. If you don’t, this will reduce the functionality of the gel. Allow the gel to dry for at least 10 minutes, or until the skin is touch dry before covering the area.

If the gel is taking longer than 10 minutes to dry, this probably means you’ve applied too much and you should try using a little less next time. If the gel is taking less than 10 minutes to dry, you should apply a little more next time. You can reduce the time it takes for Flexiseq to dry by warming the skin before applying the gel.

Twice-daily treatment with Flexiseq can provide pain relief after as little as 2 days. But it may take up to several days of continuous use for the full effect to be seen.

Does Flexiseq gel cause side effects?

There is the possibility that Flexiseq gel could cause side effects, but most patients who use this product don’t notice any. When side effects do occur they are usually mild. No serious side effects relating to Flexiseq have been reported, but you should stop using this gel and inform your doctor or local pharmacist if you do get any serious side effects.

Those who have experienced side effects from using Flexiseq mention that the skin and subcutaneous tissue (the soft tissue beneath the skin at the site of application) could become irritated after about two weeks of treatment. However, this issue tends to disappear on its own within a further few weeks if you continue to use this product. If side effects persist for longer, then reducing your dose may prevent them from occurring.
