Fostair NEXThaler

Fostair NEXThaler is a device used to relieve the symptoms of asthma in adults. Asthma is a condition that affects the lungs and causes the airways to become irritated and sensitive and will tighten and inflame as a result. This makes breathing very difficult and can be life-threatening for some people. Asthma is a long term condition which needs a long term treatment plan to keep flare-ups under control.

Fostair NEXThaler helps symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, and breathlessness. It contains the active ingredients beclometasone dipropionate anhydrous and formoterol fumarate dihydrate and comes in the form of a powder which is inhaled through the mouth and into the lungs to make breathing easier. Fostair NEXThaler is used every day alongside your reliever inhaler (treats symptoms when they happen suddenly) to adequately manage your asthma.

How does Fostair NEXThaler work to relieve asthma symptoms?

The active ingredients in this medicine work together to help relieve the symptoms of asthma. Beclometasone dipropionate anhydrous is a type of corticosteroid which is a natural hormone in the body that controls inflammatory responses. When the immune system is exposed to an allergen or trigger it releases chemicals that can cause inflammation. This corticosteroid stops these chemicals being released to reduce inflammation and irritation in the lungs.

Formoterol fumarate dihydrate is another active ingredient in this medicine which helps to relieve symptoms. It belongs to a group of medicines called long-acting bronchodilators and these are used to relax the muscles in the airways to widen them enough to let air flow through easily.

Combining these two ingredients means that the airways are kept open and the inflammation is reduced which makes breathing far easier for asthma sufferers.

How to use Fostair NEXThaler

You should always follow the guidelines given by your doctor and the patient information leaflet whether you’ve used an inhaler before or not. How much you take will depend on the severity of your condition, your doctor will prescribe your dose. The usual dose for adults using only the Fostair NEXThaler is 2 inhalations a day, one in the morning and one in the evening, and it may also be used as a reliever inhaler, however, you should not exceed 8 inhalations a day.

To use the inhaler you should stand or sit in an upright position and keep the inhaler upright. Before inhaling breathe out as far as you can with the inhaler away from your mouth, then bring the inhaler to your mouth and place your lips around the mouthpiece and avoid covering the air vent. Keeping the inhaler in your mouth take a big deep breath through your mouth. You can then remove the inhaler from your mouth and hold your breath for 5-10 seconds or for as long as you can then breathe out slowly with inhaler out of your mouth.

Who is Fostair NEXThaler suitable for?

Fostair NEXThaler is suitable for adults who suffer from daily symptoms of asthma, and those whose condition responds well to both corticosteroids and long-acting bronchodilators. This inhaler may also be suitable for adults who suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which is another long-term lung condition.
