Hydromol

Hydromol is a medication for dry skin conditions that can come as either an ointment or as a cream. It can be used against conditions such as eczema, dermatitis and others which are responsible for having dry and itchy skin. Hydromol contains a moisturising agent and oils which are used to lubricate patches of dry skin and allow them to retain moisture. This gives affected skin the chance to recover into a more normal state and this treatment can be used as often as necessary to prevent symptoms returning and keep the skin moisturised and healthy. Hydromol is not only easy to use but also suitable for both adults and children and it is unlikely to ever cause side effects.

Hydromol ointment and cream

Hydromol is a medicine used for moisturising the skin. It is an effective treatment against conditions which cause dry and itchy skin such as eczema, dermatitis, ichthyosis and senile pruritus. Hydromol is available as either an ointment or as a cream. In either form, the treatment is usable on adults and children and can be applied with ease on to the skin to make skin soft and avoid moisture loss.

How does Hydromol work?

Hydromol contains a naturally occurring moisturising agent (sodium pyrrolidone carboxylate) as well as oils, and these are used to prevent moisture loss from skin. This helps to relieve any itching a patient is currently experiencing and lubricates and softens the skin. Hydromol works as an emollient, meaning it forms a barrier over your skin to lock in the moisture and keep irritants at bay. Virtually any condition in which dry skin is a feature can be treated using hydromol.

Some patients with conditions like eczema may prefer hydromol over other treatments because it does not sodium lauryl sulphate (an ingredient that can treat eczema but some people are allergic to).

Am I ok to use Hydromol?

If you are an adult or child who is suffering symptoms of a condition which causes dry skin, then hydromol should prove effective and there’s unlikely to be anything which would make it unsafe for you to use. An exception would be if you know you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine, in which case it is obviously best to avoid it.

If you are currently taking any other medicines, then you should tell your doctor or local pharmacist about these before you start using hydromol. This is a good idea to make sure that you aren’t using anything that could possibly clash with the effects of hydromol.

Patients who are pregnant or breast-feeding are safe to use this medication.

How to use Hydromol

Hydromol cream/ointment should be applied liberally to the affected area(s) and then massaged into the skin. This treatment can be used as often as required. It is usually most beneficial when used immediately after washing or bathing, since the warmth of the skin will increase absorption.

You should avoid getting hydromol cream/ointment into the eyes or other sensitive areas. If such accidental contact occurs, then rinse out the medication well with water. If you accidentally get some of this treatment in your mouth, then it is unlikely to cause you harm.

Side effects of Hydromol

Hydromol is unlikely to cause any side effects, but like with other medicines, they cannot be completely ruled out. If your condition worsens or you experience side effects which you think hydromol has caused, then stop using this treatment and contact a doctor or local pharmacist as soon as possible. Seek medical attention urgently if you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction (like swelling, for instance).

Hydromol ingredients

In addition to its active ingredient, sodium pyrrolidone carboxylate, hydromol contains other ingredients including liquid paraffin, isopropyl myristate, sodium lactate, cetomacrogol emulsifying wax, myristyl myristate, cetomacrogol 1000, hydroxybenzoates, phenoxyethanol and purified water.

Other precautions when using hydromol

Hydromol (in either ointment or cream form) contains liquid paraffin which is highly flammable. Therefore, be sure to change any clothes, dressings, bedsheets, or other fabrics which come into contact with this product regularly, and keep this treatment away from naked flames during use.
