Lucette

Lucette is a prescription oral contraceptive designed to manipulate the body’s hormones to prevent pregnancy. There are many variations of contraceptive tablets like Lucette which exist in today’s market. Lucette is known as a combined pill since it contains both an oestrogen and a progestogen hormone (whereas some contraceptives contain just progestogen).

Lucette is one of the most reliable forms of reversible protection when used correctly, and doesn’t interrupt sex, making it one of the most popular types of contraception. Since it alters your hormones as part of its treatment, Lucette may cause some side effects. However, it has the advantage that it can be stopped immediately if the side effects prove too much.

  • You should take ONE tablet at the same time each day for 21 days, followed by 7 days of not taking any tablets before repeating the cycle. However, if you take a hormonal contraceptive that is designed to be taken every day (also known as an "ED" pill), you should not take a 7 day break after day 21.
  • Always take your tablet at the same time each day
  • If you miss a dose or take your tablet later than you should, read the patient information leaflet or speak to a GP or pharmacist for advice, as you may not be protected against pregnancy.
  • If you experience vomiting or severe diarrhoea, this medication may not work effectively. Because of this, it's recommended that you use condoms or other barrier methods for 7 days after you've experienced illnesses like these.

Buy Lucette online

Lucette is one of the many types of contraceptive tablets which can be prescribed to women. It contains both an oestrogen hormone and a progestogen hormone and these work together to stop you getting pregnant. When used correctly, lucette is one of the most reliable reversible methods of combined contraception available. It is a type of 21-day pill, meaning you take one pill a day for 21 days then have a 7-day break before starting the next pack.

You need a prescription from a GMC/EU certified doctor in order to buy this medication online. To buy Lucette from Doctor-4-U, simply complete our online consultation and if you are deemed suitable, we will dispatch your medication usually within 24 hours.

How does Lucette work?

Like other combined hormonal contraceptives, lucette contains two active ingredients. One of these is ethinylestradiol, a synthetic version of a naturally occurring oestrogen hormone, and the other is called drospirenone, a type of progestogen hormone. These work in combination to stop an egg being released into the ovaries and then fertilised.

Keep in mind that Lucette does not help protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs), you should also use a condom for to ensure safer sex, and you should take an STI test every time you have a new sexual partner.

Who is Lucette suitable for?

Although Lucette is designed for women over the age of puberty and before the age of menopause who want to prevent pregnancy, your medical history may mean it isn’t right for you.

You should not take Lucette if:

  • You are allergic to ethinylestradiol, drospirenone, or any of the other ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet
  • You are pregnant
  • You or your family have a history of blood clots
  • You have had angina, a heart attack or a stroke
  • You have had breast cancer, or cancer of the genital organs
  • You have bad migraines
  • You have severe chronic liver disease
  • You have unexplained vaginal bleeding

You should tell your doctor or local pharmacist about any health conditions you have or other medicines you’re currently using before you start using lucette, to determine if complications could occur.

Medicines it’s particularly important to mention if you are using them include those that are used for treating the following:

  • Epilepsy
  • Tuberculosis
  • HIV and Hepatitis C virus infections
  • High blood pressure in the blood vessels in the lungs
  • Fungal infection
  • Symptomatic treatment of arthrosis

You should also mention if you are using the herbal remedy St. John’s Wort or Ciclosporin (which may be used following transplant surgery).

Can Lucette cause side effects?

Like all medications, Lucette may have side effects, but not everyone experiences them. Common side effects include:

  • Nausea
  • Changes to your period
  • Depressive mood
  • Painful breasts
  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Thick and whitish vaginal discharge (vaginal yeast infection)

Taking Lucette increases your chance of getting a blood clot. While the increase is only slight, blood clots can be very dangerous. Seek medical attention immediately if you think you may have developed a blood clot. Blood clots are more likely:

  • With increasing age
  • If you smoke
  • If you are overweight
  • If you have high blood pressure
  • If a close relative has had a heart attack or stroke at a young age
  • If you have a high level of fat in your blood
  • If you get migraines
  • If you have a problem with your heart
  • If you have diabetes

There is a possible small link between Lucette and breast cancer, you can read more about this in the patient information leaflet that comes with this product.

How should I take Lucette?

Lucette is known as a 21-day pill, which means you take one pill per day for 21 days until the blister pack is finished, then have 7 pill-free days before starting the next pack. When you start taking Lucette, take the first pill on the first day of your period.

You should aim to take Lucette at a similar time of day each day. The patient information leaflet contains information on what to do if you miss a pill. The best action to take will depend on how many pills you’ve missed and what type of pill you’ve forgotten to take on time.

How is my order shipped to me?

When an order is ready for shipping, it is collected and delivered by either the Royal Mail or DPD depending on your preference (or possibly your location or the item you ordered). Each order is assigned a tracking number, which will be emailed to you at the time of dispatch. Your medicine will be sent in plain and discreet packaging. We do not include any branding on our packaging nor any labels which inform readers what type of product is contained within.
