Migraine

A migraine is a moderate to severe headache that is generally recurrent. Usually, the headache only affects one side of the head and is felt there as a throbbing or pulsating pain. Often accompanying the headache are symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and increased sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine sufferers sometimes find it soothing to lie in a dark, quiet room.

Migraines affect 1 in 5 women and 1 in 12 men, usually beginning in early adulthood. They can occur with or without warning signs, and it’s possible to experience all other migraine symptoms without actually developing a headache. Sufferers may be able to pinpoint a trigger for attacks, and work to avoid or take precautions when coming into contact with these triggers.
