Rennie Tablets

Rennie tablets contain antacids which are a type of medicine that neutralise excess stomach acid. This treatment can therefore be used to reduce symptoms such as acid reflux and heartburn. There are numerous different variations of Rennie tablets which exist, offering either a different flavour or additional treatment. Options include Rennie Deflatine, which contain antacid properties but focus more on removing trapped wind in the body. There’s also a 3 in 1 tablet which can treat excess stomach acid, indigestion and trapped wind at the same time. The more ‘regular’ Rennie tablets focus on treating issues caused by excess stomach acid and they are available in multiple flavours including peppermint, spearmint and orange.

What are Rennie Tablets?

Rennie tablets can be taken to treat problems related to excess stomach acid, including acid reflux, heartburn and symptoms of indigestion. Rennie tablets are easy to take and do not require a prescription to purchase, although you should always use them in the way intended to get the best results from them.

Most people can take Rennie tablets safely if they ever experience problems with excess stomach acid. But it’s worth checking with your doctor, local pharmacist or the product information leaflet, because certain health-related circumstances can make Rennie unsuitable to take.

Rennie Heartburn, Indigestion & Wind Relief tablets, also known as 3 in 1 tablets, combine three ingredients together so they can treat not only symptoms of heartburn and indigestion, but also trapped wind symptoms too. It can be viewed as a combination of the Rennie Deflatine tablets which focus on trapped wind and other Rennie tablets which work to reduce excess acid in the stomach.

How do Rennie tablets work?

Rennie tablets contain two naturally-occurring antacids which are called calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. These antacids can neutralise any excess acid in your stomach by turning it into water or other natural substances. Calcium carbonate acts directly in the oesophagus (in addition to the stomach).

Rennie Heartburn, Indigestion & Wind Relief (3 in 1) tablets incorporate both the antacids featured in ‘regular’ Rennie tablets as well as the simeticone found in Rennie Deflatine to deliver a wider range of treatment to patients.

Rennie Tablet flavours explained

There are different variations of Rennie tablets. Some offer different distinct flavours, while others work in different ways (such as extra potency, or focusing more on removing trapped wind).

When ordering these tablets from Doctor-4-U, you can pick your preferred flavour among those currently in stock. The different types of Rennie chewable tablets which exist include the following:

  • Peppermint
  • Spearmint
  • Sugar Free
  • Orange
  • Ice (mint flavour with cooling agents)
  • Extra (powerful long-lasting formula)
  • Heartburn, Indigestion & Wind Relief (for treating excess stomach acid and trapped wind at the same time)

Can I use Rennie tablets?

Rennie tablets can be taken by adults to treat symptoms of acid reflux, heartburn or trapped wind, provided that certain health-related circumstances do not apply. You should consult your doctor or local pharmacist if you have any medical concerns which you believe could affect your ability to take Rennie tablets safely.

You should avoid taking any of these tablets if any of the following applies to you:

  • You have a severe kidney disease or suffer from kidney stones
  • You have high calcium levels in your blood, kidneys or urine
  • You have low phosphate levels in the blood

Check with your doctor or pharmacist about using Rennie tablets if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are currently taking other medicines, then disclose these as well, since some could end up interacting with the effects of Rennie tablets. If you are taking antibiotics, thiazide diuretics, levothyroxine or any medicines for heart failure, then it’s especially important to mention these.

Rennie tablet dosage instructions

One or two tablets can be sucked or chewed as required. The maximum tablets you can take within 24 hours is 11 (unless you are using Rennie Extra, where 12 in 24 hours is the limit). If you are taking Rennie Extra, then two tablets are recommended when taking a dose, and it’s preferable to have them one hour after meals and before bedtime.

The duration of treatment is usually limited to 14 days. Consult a doctor about your next steps if your symptoms do not improve following this period of treatment.

Can Rennie tablets cause side effects?

There is the possibility that Rennie tablets could cause side effects. This applies to all medicines, but not everyone who takes these tablets experiences side effects. The chances of getting any are low if you stick to the recommended dose when taking Rennie tablets. If you do get any side effects from taking Rennie tablets, it is best to inform your doctor, nurse or local pharmacist about this.
