What is Rizatriptan and what does it do?

Rizatriptan, sometimes referred to as ‘generic Maxalt’, is a medicine used to relieve migraine. Rizatriptan contains the active ingredient with the same name, and belongs to a group of medicines called triptans.

Rizatriptan tablets are indicated for the acute treatment of migraine attacks in adults, including migraine with aura. Rizatriptan provides migraine relief by reducing swelling of the blood vessels surrounding the brain.

When is Rizatriptan prescribed?

Rizatriptan may be prescribed if you have previously had a clear diagnosis of migraine. This treatment should only be used to relieve migraine, and is not suitable for treating other types of headache.

Please note, Rizatriptan should only be taken once a migraine attack has started. It must not be used to try to prevent a future migraine attack.

Is Rizatriptan suitable for my condition?

Yes, if you have previously been diagnosed with migraine and are not taking any other medication that has the potential to interact with Rizatriptan, or have any medical condition that affects the suitability of this treatment.

Note, certain medicines and medical conditions may affect the suitability of this treatment. Rizatriptan should not be taken if any of the below applies to you:

  • If you are allergic or sensitive to rizatriptan or any of the other ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet.
  • If you have high blood pressure.
  • If you have or have previously have had heart problems or chest pain.
  • If you have previously had a stroke or mini stroke.
  • If you have liver or kidney problems.
  • If you are taking any medicine to treat depression, such as MAO inhibitors.
  • If you are taking any other medicines to treat migraine.

How do I buy Rizatriptan online?

To legally and safely buy Rizatriptan online you need a prescription from a GMC (General Medical Council) registered doctor. Our online doctor service allows you to request a private prescription through an online medical questionnaire. Once you have chosen your medicine and submitted the questionnaire, it will be assessed by one of our doctors.
