Striverdi Respimat is a bronchodilator which are used to treat long term breathlessness or sudden attacks of breathlessness caused by COPD. Striverdi Respimat is a long-acting bronchodilator which means that it is used on a regular basis to keep breathlessness associated with COPD under control and prevent sudden attacks. There are three types of bronchodilators, and Striverdi Respimat is known as a beta-2 agonist and these work by stimulating beta-2 receptors in the muscles in the airways causing them to relax and widen making it much easier to breathe.

Who is suitable to use Striverdi Respimat?

Bronchodilators can be used to treat COPD or asthma, however, this particular bronchodilator is only suitable for those who have COPD and it must not be used by asthma patients.

Striverdi Respimat dosage

The recommended dose of this medicine is two puffs each time you use the inhaler and you will only use it once a day as the effects last for 24 hours. It’s important that you take this medicine every day in order for it to effectively control your symptoms. This is a long-acting bronchodilator and so it works on the long term symptoms of COPD such as breathlessness rather than treating short term symptoms.

How to use Striverdi Respimat

Follow the instructions on the patient information leaflet which will be included with your medicine, it will have a guide on how to prepare the medicine before use and how to use it.

Firstly, while keeping the cap closed you’ll need to turn the clear base halfway in the direction of the arrows until it clicks, you can then open the cap. Before closing your lips around the mouthpiece, breathe out slowly. Make sure you aren’t covering any air vents and point the inhaler to the back of your throat. Press the button to release a dose while taking slow, deep breaths through your mouth. After one puff hold your breath for around 10 seconds or for as long as you feel comfortable. Repeat these steps for a total of two puffs and leave around a minute between each puff.

Striverdi Respimat side effects

The majority of people taking this medicine will not experience side effects, however, as with all medicines, side effects may occur. Around 1 in 100 people may experience a runny nose or other cold symptoms, dizziness, or a rash as a side effect of this medication. In rarer cases, side effects include joint pain, hypertension (high blood pressure), unexpected tightness in the chest, coughing, wheezing, or breathlessness straight after using the inhaler, or serious allergic reaction with symptoms including swelling of the face and mouth, a rash, and difficulty breathing. If you experience a worsening in your breathing, sudden tightness in the chest, or signs of an allergic reaction, stop taking this medicine and seek medical help straight away.
