Stugeron travel sickness tablets

Brand received may vary

Stugeron tablets are a treatment for people who suffer from symptoms of travel sickness or problems with their balance. If you are due to go on a long journey by car, boat or air, then stugeron can be taken before and during the journey to make the experience much easier to cope with. These tablets contain cinnarizine, which is an antihistamine that prevents the body from producing certain chemicals that cause nausea and vomiting.

As well as letting patients avoid being sick during travelling, these tablets are effective at easing symptoms like dizziness, light-headedness or ringing in your ears, which can all be caused by different issues such as inner ear problems (like vertigo or tinnitus).

What are Stugeron travel sickness tablets?

Stugeron is a branded version of tablets which are taken to control travel sickness. These tablets contain a medicine called cinnarizine which can help against symptoms caused by balance or movement problems. This medicine is suitable for use for both adults and children (aged 5 or above).

How Stugeron works

The main ingredient in stugeron, known as cinnarizine, is a drowsy (sedating) antihistamine. Antihistamines are designed to stop you feeling sick and the ones described as drowsy antihistamines are more likely to make you sleepy than other antihistamines which exist.

Stugeron is able to disrupt certain signals that get sent to your brain when travel sickness is occurring. These brain signals ordinarily trigger the release of a natural substance called histamine, which leads your body to feel or become sick. By interrupting this process, an antihistamine like stugeron can make dealing with travel sickness a lot easier.

Who can take Stugeron?

Stugeron is meant for patients who have travel sickness symptoms or problems with their balance caused by certain other issues. Many adults and children who need treatment for such conditions will be able to take stugeron without any problems, but keep in mind that children below the age of 5 are advised not to take this medication.

Do not take stugeron tablets if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

In some circumstances, you should consult a doctor before taking this medication. This applies especially if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Liver or kidney problems
  • A blood problem called porphyria
  • Intolerance to some sugars (stugeron tablets contain lactose and sucrose)

If you have any of these issues, then you may still be able to take stugeron tablets, but only if your doctor says it’s ok to do so.

You should also inform your doctor or local pharmacist about any other medicines you are currently taking, to check if it's ok to take stugeron tablets at the same time. It’s particularly important to highlight if you are taking any medicines which treat the following conditions:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Difficulty Sleeping
  • Pain

Stugeron dosage instructions

When taking stugeron to treat travel sickness specifically, the recommended dose for adults and children aged 12 or above is 2 tablets which are taken 2 hours before travelling, followed by 1 tablet every 8 hours during the journey. For children aged 5-12, 1 tablet is taken 2 hours before travel and then half a tablet is taken every 8 hours during the journey.

If these tablets are not being used to treat travel sickness but for problems with balance, then those aged 12 or above should take 2 tablets on 3 occasions per day. The dose is reduced to 1 tablet 3 times a day if the patient is 5-12 years old.

If you forget to take a dose of this medicine, then you can take it as long as it’s been at least 8 hours since your last tablet. Let at least 8 hours pass by until you take the following dose. Avoid taking a double dose to make up for a forgotten one. Taking a larger dose than you’re meant to greatly increases your risk of experiencing side effects.

Stugeron side effects

Like with all other medicines, it is possible that stugeron could cause side effects, although not everybody experiences them. The most commonly reported side effects linked with the use of stugeron include the following:

  • Drowsiness
  • Nausea
  • Indigestion
  • Weight gain

Other side effects are possible but are also much less common. You should contact a doctor or hospital emergency department if you experience any side effects which are severe or prolonged. Stop taking this medication and seek medical help right away if you experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction (such as swelling around the face).

Can I get Stugeron without needing a prescription?

Yes, it is possible to buy stugeron tablets without a prescription. Buying stugeron from an online pharmacy including Doctor-4-U does not require a prescription either. However, you will still need to complete a short medical questionnaire before confirming your order. This is necessary to confirm that it is safe and appropriate for you to use this treatment. When you complete the questionnaire, your answers will be reviewed by one of our GMC/EU registered doctors and if they give your order the all-clear, it will usually be dispatched within 24 hours.

How is my order shipped to me?

When an order is ready for shipping, it is collected and delivered by either the Royal Mail or DPD depending on your preference (or possibly your location or the item you ordered). Each order is assigned a tracking number, which will be emailed to you at the time of dispatch. Your medicine will be sent in plain and discreet packaging. We do not include any branding on our packaging nor any labels which inform readers what type of product is contained within.
