Synphase

Synphase is a prescription medication known as an oral contraceptive, of which there are dozens of variations. Also known as “The Pill”, oral contraceptives belong to the family of contraceptives known as hormonal contraceptives, as they manipulate the body’s hormones to prevent pregnancy. Synphase is called a combined pill as it contains both an oestrogen and a progestogen hormone. The Pill is one of the most reliable forms of reversible protection, and doesn’t interrupt sex, making it one of the most popular types of contraception. As it alters your hormones to have its effect, there may be some side effects in the form of mood swings. However, it has the advantage that it can be stopped immediately if the side effects are too much.

  • You should take ONE tablet at the same time each day for 21 days, followed by 7 days of not taking any tablets before repeating the cycle. However, if you take a hormonal contraceptive that is designed to be taken every day (also known as an "ED" pill), you should not take a 7 day break after day 21.
  • Always take your tablet at the same time each day
  • If you miss a dose or take your tablet later than you should, read the patient information leaflet or speak to a GP or pharmacist for advice, as you may not be protected against pregnancy.
  • If you experience vomiting or severe diarrhoea, this medication may not work effectively. Because of this, it's recommended that you use condoms or other barrier methods for 7 days after you've experienced illnesses like these.

Buy Synphase online

Synphase is a type of oral contraceptive which contains two hormones - an oestrogen hormone and a progestogen hormone - which work together to stop you getting pregnant. Synphase is a type of 21-day pill, meaning you take one pill a day for 21 days then have a 7-day break before starting the next pack. Each blister pack of synphase contains different colour tablets - 7 blue, 9 white, and 5 more blue. These contain different hormone ratios, and taken in the correct order, match your cycle.

You need a prescription from a GMC/EU certified doctor in order to buy this medication online. To buy synphase from Doctor-4-U, simply complete our online consultation and if you are deemed suitable, we will dispatch your medication usually within 24 hours.

How does Synphase work?

Synphase contains two active ingredients. The first of these is ethinylestradiol, a synthetic version of a naturally occurring oestrogen hormone, and the second is norethisterone, a type of progestogen hormone. These work in together to stop an egg being released into the ovaries and then fertilised.

As synphase does not help protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs), you should also use a condom for to ensure safer sex, and you should take an STI test every time you have a new sexual partner.

Who is Synphase suitable for?

Synphase is designed for women over the age of puberty and before the age of menopause who want to prevent pregnancy. However, your medical history may mean it is not safe for you to take this medication.

You should not take Synphase if:

  • You are allergic to ethinylestradiol, norethisterone, or any of the other ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet
  • You are pregnant
  • You or your family have a history of blood clots
  • You have had angina, a heart attack or a stroke
  • You have had breast cancer, or cancer of the genital organs
  • You have bad migraines
  • You have severe chronic liver disease
  • You have unexplained vaginal bleeding

You should tell your doctor or local pharmacist about any other medicines which you are currently taking. This is because certain treatments can cause complications with how synphase works or vice versa. It’s especially important to mention if you are using any medicines which treat any of the following conditions:

  • Hepatitis C (e.g. ombitasvir, paritaprevir, ritonavir)
  • Epilepsy (e.g. carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin)
  • Sleeplessness/anxiety (e.g. phenobarbital)
  • HIV infection/AIDS (e.g. nelfinavir, nevirapine, ritonavir)
  • Bacterial infection (e.g. rifabutin, rifampicin)
  • Fungal infection (e.g. griseofulvin)
  • Narcolepsy (e.g. modafinil)

Synphase side effects

Like all medications, Synphase may have side effects, but not everyone gets them. Potential side effects include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Changes to your period
  • Depression and mood swings
  • Painful breasts
  • Headaches

The most likely outcome is that you won’t experience any side effects at all. Even if you do, the chances are they will be mild and short-lived. If, however, you do get any side effects which are prolonged or severe (such as symptoms of an allergic reaction), then stop taking synphase and see a doctor as soon as possible.

Taking Synphase slightly increases your chance of getting a blood clot. Seek medical attention immediately if you think you may have developed a blood clot. Blood clots are more likely:

  • With increasing age
  • If you smoke
  • If you are overweight
  • If you have high blood pressure
  • If a close relative has had a heart attack or stroke at a young age
  • If you have a high level of fat in your blood
  • If you get migraines
  • If you have a problem with your heart
  • If you have diabetes

There is a possible small link between Synphase and breast cancer, which you can read more about by consulting the patient information leaflet.

Synphase dosage instructions

Synphase is known as a 21-day pill, which means you take one pill (7 blue, 9 white, 5 blue) per day for 21 days until the blister pack is finished, then have 7 pill-free days before starting the next pack. When you begin taking Synphase, take the first pill on the first day of your period. Make sure you take Synphase at a similar time of day each day.

If you forget to take one or several synphase tablets, then the next steps you should take will depend on which type of tablet you were meant to take and how many. Consult your patient information leaflet for more guidance on what to do.
