Vaniqa

Vaniqa is a type of medicinal cream used to reduce female facial hair. Excessive facial hair growth in women is believed to be caused by a hormonal imbalance. Although there are no physical long term side effects caused by facial hair, some people may find it embarrassing and that it affects their self esteem. Vaniqa is a quick and easy solution which helps to manage the problem so you don’t have to worry about regular hair removal. It is a topical cream, which means it will only have an effect in the area the cream is applied to, so there is no risk of hair loss on other areas of the body. It will reduce growth of hair, but not remove hair that is already there.

If you need to use Vaniqa cream, you can buy it online safely from a UK doctor such as Doctor-4-U by completing our simple medical questionnaire and getting a certified prescription. It will be dispatched within 24 hours.

What is Vaniqa cream?

Vaniqa is a type of medicinal cream used by women to remove excessive facial hair, which some may find embarrassing and harmful to their self-image. Vaniqa cream is used to treat the condition called hirsutism, which many women can experience at some point in their lives. The condition often causes hair grow in places that are unusual for women such as the upper lip and chin and it can occur due to imbalanced hormone levels.

When using Vaniqa for treatment, it may take around two months before it begins to show effects, and it will only prevent the growth of hair. It will not remove hair that is already there. It is a topical cream so will only provide treatment to the area you apply it, so there is no risk of widespread hair loss.

Do you need a prescription for Vaniqa?

Yes, you need a prescription from a GMC/EU certified doctor in order to buy Vaniqa online. With Doctor-4-U’s easy consultation process, you can get a prescription for Vaniqa safely and quickly. You will need to fill in a short medical questionnaire provided before ordering this item. If you are deemed suitable for your prescription, it will usually be dispatched within 24 hours.

How does Vaniqa work?

Vaniqa contains the active ingredient eflornithine hydrochloride, which blocks the enzymes needed for normal hair growth. The particular enzyme blocked is called ornithine decarboxylase and it is found inside hair follicles.

By disrupting this enzyme which is so crucial in allowing hair growth, patients who use Vaniqa can go about their day without having to worry about the presence of excess hair.

Is Vaniqa suitable for me?

Vaniqa is designed for women aged 18 or above suffering from excessive facial hair. Even if this applies to you though, your medical history and other medications may mean Vaniqa cream isn’t right for you.

You should avoid this treatment if:

  • You are allergic to eflornithine or any of the other ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet
  • You are pregnant, breast-feeding or trying to become pregnant
  • You are below the age of 18

To ensure you’re okay to use Vaniqa, you should speak to your doctor before using it if:

  • You have liver problems
  • You have kidney problems
  • You suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or specific hormone producing tumours (your facial hair growth may be occurring due to such a condition)
  • You take medicines which can induce hair growth as a side effect such as cyclosporine, glucocorticoids or minoxidil

You should also speak to your doctor before using Vaniqa about any other type of medicines you are taking, including any obtained without a prescription.

How do I use Vaniqa?

This medicinal cream should always be used in the way your doctor has instructed you. You can check with your doctor or pharmacist if you’re in anyway unsure about how to use Vaniqa properly.

The treatment should be used twice a day, with a gap of at least 8 hours in between each application. Before using the cream, clean and dry the areas of skin where it will be used. Then apply a thin layer of the cream and rub it in thoroughly until no visual residual product remains on the treated areas. Then wash your hands when you’ve finished applying the cream.

If possible, do not wash the areas of skin where the cream has been applied for 4 hours. It’s possible to have make-up or sunscreen on areas where Vaniqa has been used but wait at least 5 minutes after applying the cream before using such things in the same areas. You should also wait at least 5 minutes if you have just shaved or used another hair removal method and want to use Vaniqa on the same area of skin.

It's important to keep using the cream on a daily basis and it may take 8 weeks before you see results. If you do not see any improvement after 4 months, then stop using this treatment and contact your doctor for advice. If you experience irritation (a stinging or burning sensation on the skin) from using Vaniqa, then reduce its use to once a day until the irritation has gone. If it persists, then speak to your doctor.

What are the side effects of using Vaniqa?

Like all medications, Vaniqa may have side effects, but not everyone gets them. Common side effects include the following:

  • Acne
  • Dry skin
  • Hair loss
  • Inflammation around the hair shaft
  • Itchy and red skin or a rash
  • Irritated skin and possible bumps on the skin if shaving has recently occurred
  • Stinging, tingling or burning feeling on the skin

Other side effects (some of which can be more severe) are possible but also rare. You should speak to your doctor or a pharmacist as soon as possible if any side effects occur which you find alarming. If you think you may be having an allergic reaction (swelling of the hands and face, difficulty breathing) contact a doctor immediately.

It’s important to avoid getting Vaniqa in your eyes or inside your nose or mouth. If you accidentally get this cream in these areas, then rinse well with water.
