What is Ventolin and what does it do?

Salbutamol, which is the active ingredient in Ventolin, is used to help dilate the airways in people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and similar conditions.

Salbutamol works by stimulating certain receptors in the airways. It relieves breathing problems by relaxing the muscle in the airways so that air can pass to and from the lungs more freely.

When is Ventolin prescribed?

Ventolin may be prescribed to relieve, prevent or as a regular treatment for asthma. It may also be prescribed to treat other similar conditions affecting your breathing, such as COPD.

Asthma causes the airways to narrow or become clogged with sticky mucus. Certain ‘triggers’ can temporarily worsen the condition and induce breathing difficulties. Common symptoms include:

  • Wheezing when breathing.
  • A tight chest.
  • Breathlessness and coughing.

Is Ventolin suitable for my condition?

Yes, if you have asthma, COPD or similar condition and have previously used Ventolin to successfully relieve your symptoms. However, the doctor will determine the suitability of Ventolin based on the information you provide us through the medical questionnaire.

Ventolin may not be prescribed

if any of the following applies to you:

  • If you are allergic to Ventolin, salbutamol sulfate or any of the ingredients listed in the patient information leaflet.
  • If your asthma is active (frequent symptoms or flare ups).
  • If you have or have had heart problems, such as irregular heartbeat or angina.
  • If you are taking xanthine derivatives or steroids to treat your asthma.
  • If you unexpectedly go into early labour or threatened abortion.

What is the recommended dosage of Ventolin?

You should follow the doctor’s instructions on how to take this medicine. The doses outlined below is for your reference only. Ventolin can be taken at any time of day, with or without food.

Do not exceed 8 puffs in any 24 hour period.

Ventolin doses for adults

To relieve asthma: take one or two puffs.

To prevent asthma: take two puffs 10 - 15 minutes before exercise or exposure to a known trigger.

For regular treatment of asthma: take two puffs up to 4 times a day.

Does Ventolin cause any side effects?

All medicines can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. Common side effects from using Ventolin include:

  • Feeling shaky.
  • Headache.

Always read the patient information leaflet before use. Doing so will help you recognise any side effects and when to seek medical help.

Can I reduce the risk of getting side effects?

Yes. Always read the patient information leaflet thoroughly before use as this can help reduce the risk of side effects and interactions between medicines. Below are a few things you can do:

  • Do not use the medicine after the expiry date.
  • Do not use more than the doctor has instructed.
  • While filling in the medical questionnaire, remember to include any other medicines you are taking. Ventolin can affect how other medicines work, so it is important that you tell our doctors about all medicine you take. Remember to include any over the counter medication and supplements.

How do I buy Ventolin online?

To legally and safely buy Zopiclone online you need a prescription from a GMC (General Medical Council) registered doctor. Our online doctor service allows you to request a prescription through a medical questionnaire.

Once you have chosen your medicine and submitted the questionnaire, it will be reviewed by one of our doctors. If suitable, the doctor will accept your request and a prescription will be issued.

Your medicine will then be dispensed by our UK pharmacy and sent by tracked delivery to your chosen address. Your medicine is usually dispatched within 24 hours after ordering.
