Viridal Duo

Viridal Duo is a prescription medication used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men. Erectile dysfunction is a common problem that usually affects men over the age of 40 but it can occur in younger men. Erectile dysfunction is when a man cannot get or maintain an erection due to a variety of causes such as narrowing of the penis blood vessels, hormone problems, or psychological problems such as anxiety and depression. There are many treatments available for erectile dysfunction in the form of tablets, vacuum pumps, counselling, and injections such as Viridal Duo. This injection may be used when tablets are not suitable. Viridal Duo contains the active substance alprostadil and helps a man to get and maintain an erection.

How does Viridal Duo work?

To get an erection the brain should send signals to the blood vessels in the penis when a man is aroused, and the arteries relax and open to let more blood flow into the penis to hold an erection, when this blood flow stops the penis becomes soft. Erectile dysfunction occurs when this blood flow is restricted due to the chemicals or signals not working properly which are essential to getting and maintaining an erection. Viridal Duo works by widening the blood vessels in the penis to increase the blood flow needed for an erection.

How to use Viridal Duo?

This is a prescription medication and you should never attempt to use it without being shown how by your doctor first. Your patient information leaflet will also demonstrate how to use the device. The injector will firstly need to be prepared by screwing the needle onto the end of the injector, inserting the cartridge, screwing on the plunger, ensuring that all air is removed from the cartridge, and setting the dose.

Before using the injector ensure that your penis is cleaned and the injection site has been cleaned with an alcohol swab. To inject, draw the penis away from your body and slowly inject the solution straight into the injection site which the patient information leaflet will demonstrate.

How much solution should I use?

The amount of solution you use will depend on the dose prescribed by your doctor, and the cause of your erectile dysfunction. The usual dose for this medicine is 2.5 or 5 micrograms, this is the initial dose and this may be increased. If your erectile dysfunction is due to neurological problems your starting dose may be lower. Never exceed the prescribed dose, the amount you’re given is intended to give an erection for no longer than 1 hour.
